10-Apr-06: Groundfish Pilot Integration Proposal Approved. Loyola Hearn, the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, approved the three year Pilot Integration Proposal for commercial groundfish fisheries on April 10th of this year. The plan essentially allows for intersectoral trading of groundfish species IQ to account for non-directed catch in each of the commercial sectors. Under the plan, the Outside Rockfish (ZNO), Dogfish, and Lingcod Hook and Line sectors will move to an IQ system. Trading and leasing between the sectors will be gradually rolled out over the next month, with ZNO, Halibut (L) and Sablefish (K) sectors initially involved, followed shortly by Dogfish and Lingcod, and finally Trawl.

05-Apr-06: Doug Mechalchuk Memorial Fund. It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Doug Mechalchuk, skipper on the Ocean Fisher #1. Doug is survived by his wife Carmen and six children. For those wishing to help, there has been a trust fund set up for his family with Canada Trust/TD Bank, Account No. 6250142, Branch No. 9320. Donations can be made throughout the province at any Canada Trust/TD Bank location.

15-Feb-06: IQMI Hits The Web. IQMI is live and on the web. We have brought the quota management experience of A to Z Quota Registry together with other expertise from the field of Halibut and Sablefish IVQs to create a one-stop shop for West Coast commercial fishing quota information and services.

The company has been structured so that customers coming to the site from A to Z Quota Registry and other areas of the industry will find a continuity of services, provided in the same clean and straightforward manner. We will also be expanding our range of services as we enhance our listing and processing capabilities. We have several exciting changes planned over the coming months and we encourage you to stay tuned by visiting the site regularly.
