Leases

Quota can be leased by one person from another, provided it can be transferred from one valid licence to another. Leased quota is normally transferred back to the original owner at the end of each year, after which it can be leased again. Quantities can be large or small, but normally involve the exchange of leased quota in return for a cash payment.

IQMI will process leases between parties, either directly or through their broker. Steps include:
  • Gathering data on transfer specifics, licenses, quota, species, etc.,
  • Validating each individual transfer with DFO,
  • Generating all necessary DFO paperwork,
  • Confirming transfers with each participant, and
  • Holding funds in escrow until a deal is closed.

In addition to processing, IQMI clients get an active matching service that alerts them when quota that matches what they're looking for appears on the system. IQMI will also actively search for leasing opportunities on behalf of its clients.

Commission-based fees for this service are outlined on our pricing page, and vary according to the size of each transfer and whether IQMI has played the role of lead broker.
