Trades & Transfers

Quota can be traded among licenses to account for bycatch or to optimize ITQ holdings for changes in current or seasonal fishing operations. The types of transactions generally involve the virtual trade or exchange of species and tonnage, without cash. Quantities transferred can be large or small.

Regardless of whether you list with IQMI, we will process quota trades and exchanges between two, or among as many as several, licences at a time. Processing includes:
  • Gathering data on transfer specifics, licenses, quota, species, etc.,
  • Validating each individual transfer with DFO,
  • Generating all necessary DFO paperwork, and
  • Confirming transfers with each participant.

In addition to processing, IQMI clients get an active matching service that alerts them when quota that matches what they're looking for appears on the system.

Fees for this service are outlined on our pricing page, and vary according to the size of each transfer.
